Replanting my Crispy Wave!!!

Today, I replanted my Crispy Wave plant. These plants sit at either side of my bed on my nightstand. According to the stake that came with it, the plant will filter the air (most plants do this, some better than others). I thought where better to put it then my nightstand where it could filter the air while I slept! These little guys are so neat I just adore them!! When its leaves started to dry and curled up I was worried to say the least. I am hoping that by replanting them my Crispy Waves will bounce back to their original strong selves!

In this first picture, you can see how small the original pot is. I am hoping to repurpose one of these pots for my (not so) mini orchid. I really liked the soft cream colour of the original pots so, I tried to pick a similar colour. The pots I settled on are white with vertical lines. I really like that the pot is narrower at the bottom and it flares on the way up helping to maximizes precious space on my night stand while still giving my plant the room it needs to grow.

When planting your beloved Crispy Waves make sure to place a small amount of rocks at the bottom of the pot to allow for better drainage. I am also using a pot with drainage holes with a solid pot. The drainage pot allows for any excess water to drain into the bottom pot. I was not able to separate my roots very much as the roots were literally choking themselves. It is really hard to see in the previous picture as the roots are the same colour as the dirt which you can see by the small amount of roots hanging off of the bottom. If you look closely on the right side you can see a lot of roots all compressed together it almost looks like webbing. I think my husband’s hypothesis that the Crispy Waves were out growing their pot is correct! Luckily, I am almost done giving them a new home. Next, fill the new pot with a small amount of soil. Place the plant into the pot and fill the space around the plant. Due to the size of the root system, I had a hard time filling the pot because there was only a small amount of space between the roots and the pot. The Crispy Waves have huge leaves which are strong, firm and don’t yield much to a gentle touch, that makes it a little more difficult.

This was probably the easier replant I’ve had in a long time and boy do they look stellar in their new pots!!! I really hope this fixes the problems I have been having with them and they get back to growing as beautifully as they did before. I love the way they accent my bedroom and the fact that they are filtering the air is just a bonus.
