Exploding Succulents!!!

I have or rather had a beautiful succlent. It was about 4-5 inches tall and had long rounded leaves. Well, it had started to grow a baby after a while the long stem the baby was growing off of bent so that the baby was in an adjacent pot. It sat like this for a while, then one day I had to move the pot beside it because of some water that had been spilt. I felt the baby tear off the pot and wanted to cry. I immediately regretted my mistake, quickly cleaned up the water and set the baby but inside the pot.

It was to no avail!! The baby started to shrivel and dry up. First the stem and then all the way down to the baby. What I thought was crazy was what happened next. Seemingly out of nowhere, the whole stem of the plant shrived up and rejected ALL of it's leaves!! I couldn't believe it!! I have never seen anything quite like it before. I wonder if this is a normal response. the leaves have the ability to make babies on their own so maybe the plant sheds them in order to continue life? Who knows! I know one thing ... that's A LOT of leaves!

The top of the plant was altogether so I figured I'll just plant it as a whole. I have some root stimulator I have been experimenting with and well I figure for sure that this thing is the perfect time to try it out on a mass scale! So exciting!!

So the first thing you do is collect all your supplies. This job is a big one so I decided to cover the table with newspaper. From this angle you can really get a feel for why I describe this plant as "exploding" The pieces are literally everywhere! It looks like the plant just spit the leaves out before shirveling up and dying so weird.

Now that I have have everything I am going to start the rooting of many many succulent leaves!! Luckily the root stimulator I have been using is easy to use except that it wants the soil to be wet but succulents don't like too much water. It is a delicate balance and well I have a tendency to over water my plants I always have.

I decided to start with the top of the plant it looked completely healthy excpet for the dried up stem anyways. It was hard to dip this guy in the root mixture becuse of how small the bottom was and how delicate the leaves were. The leaves would fall off if I was too rough with it.

Wow Yep there are lots of little succulent babies here! Hopefully I can grow them up and not kill them. I have a hard time with any low water plants. Succulents of course need very little water.

So this is the stem of the Mother plant. How weird!! In fact, it almost looks alien. The colour looks sick and each of the black dots is where a leaf was connected. Anyone have any ideas what happened? If you know I would really like to know! Join the conversation!!
